The Game: The Video Game

Sorry, you just lost “The Game”. If you were not playing it already, “The Game” is a mental game where the goal is to not think of “The Game”. The way it is usually played is by saying out loud, “Dammit, I just lost”, making everyone else in the room also lose.

I can’t really decide if “The Game” is an advanced reasoning-level genius idea, or pure stupidity, but I made a video game version of it.

“The Game: The Video Game” is a mobile app where the goal is to not open it. When you open the app, you are greeted by a “You lost” message, along with the time you lasted since you last opened it, and your all-time high score. At the bottom of the screen is a “Try again” button, which closes the app.

It uses an internet clock to track time, so you cannot cheat by simply changing your phone’s internal clock.

This project is, of course, more of a joke than anything, but in an age where many people feel addicted to their phones and open certain apps compulsively hundreds of times a day, having an app that purposefully asks you to not open it seems like a nice message.

For info, my personal record is 617 days, 8 hours, 10 minutes, and 56 seconds. Send me a screenshot as proof if you ever beat me :)
